flathead to a ford t5

as the title says, id like to run a mustang t5 behind my flathead. i have 3 4 banger world class ford t5s. i know the flathead wont produce much power, thats why i like the 3.97 first gear. it seems like the aftermarket kits are for gm style t5. im pretty sure the tranny to bell bolt pattern is the same. i know input shafts are different. gm runs 26 spline while ford runs 10. i know the shifter is farther forward on a gm and the tail shaft is longer. but i dont know if the input shaft is the same size lenght. if it is, i could just buy the kit and swap out the clutch disc. anyone know the size of the gm stuff??

Ford & GM T5's have the same bolt patern (some the bolts go thru the belhousing, some thru the tranny just drill them to go the same way), and there are a few different input splines, same shaft, different splines, just get the clutch disc that matchs the number you have.

thats my main concern. i know there are 2 different lengths with the mustangs and 2 different pilot bearing diameters. but, im not sure about the gm stuff.

Um, the bell housing attachment bolt patterns on the trans cases are not the same on all S-10/chev and Mustang transmissions. There are folks who have developed parts to deal with that and the throwout bearing diameter differences, as well as input shaft length differences. You are right! I was going on info that someone, that installed a GM T5 into his Mustang said. Not by info I looked up, I only help worked with a T5 out of a Astro van in a '80 Chevy Truck that was already used in it for a couple years. Sorry.

Easy mistake, there are so many iterations out there. I have S-10 T5s with both patterns, didn't know the difference until I found out first hand myself.
