TH 350 accumulator spring

I'm putting a B&M shift kit in a TH 350 that I have. I bought this from a guy who said that it was in a truck he bought and it worked OK but banged the gears so hard that it got on his nerves so he pulled it out. I thought if I just put in a standard B&M shift improver kit it would help it out. Two things; when I pulled it apart I found that the 1-2 accumulator spring was way lighter than a stock spring. Should I switch to the stock one? Also, when I took the valve body off, I found that there was no spring under the 2-3 accumulator piston. I've got two different manuals on these and both show that there should be a spring under the piston. Any ideas? When I pulled it apart it had some other brand of valve body spacer plate in it that I never heard of. Does anyone recall using a kit that might have said to leave the spring out?:confused::confused:

Sound more Like a B&M TransPac . You need the 2-3 Accumulator Spring . I have Removed the Heavy Spring from the 1-2 Accumulator on a TH-350 that Was not Shifting fast Enough It works . Nice Fast shift 1-2 after doing so . You will need all new Valve Body and Sep Plate Gaskets . And one Check ball goes back .

You can leave the 1-2 spring out altogether?

Yes you can . I was told by a Trans rebuilder to do this Mod on my 1972 Cutlass . That round lock ring is not fun to Remove in the Driveway :confused:

It would worth while to tear down the tranny and see how loose the clutch clearances are. A person could revert back to a stock configuration and still have banging gears because the clutches have been clearanced loosely and have had the wavesteels removed. Bringing them back to a closer to stock clearnce spec and the use what ever valve body and accumulator spring set up will produce quick, smooth, and flawless shifting. All with no banging when engaging.

You're right, I'm just a little nervous about trying it because I've just never taken one down that far. But I guess you have to learn sometime or keep paying someone else to do it for you. I've got a pretty good manual on it; might have to give it a shot.
