I have a TH400 that I had built with a shift kit...runs great but when it shifts out of 1st gear it is doing it around 2200rpm. How can I get this to shift above 3500 to get the HP out of the motor?

Did You retain stock governor settings? Is the modulator adjustable? Is the kick downsolenoid still hooked up and working? All of thes things can and will affect the shift points and together or individually create settings you aren't happy with.
I adjusted the modular by turning the inside screw clockwise until it would not turn any further.
Kick down is hooked up and works at about 90% throttle but when it is in low gear it shifts to early....not so much the case in 2nd gear.
Governor settings I am not sure of..... the guy who rebuilt it did put in a B&M shift kit. But I dont know much else about it other than that
There are tricks to do to the governor. The simpilest way to get the thing to get higher on shifts is to buy the governor mod kits such as B&M etc. Instead of creeping up on RPM points, start with the highest shifting set up and work downward if it's too high. Most of the time, the lighest (highest) will put you close to your mark. If not, there is a little additional trick from a ball point pen that will fine tune it up even higher. Try the kit first and see where it lands.
