Transmission torque converter stall
Just what exactly is stall. What does stall do? I'm just here to learn so when it comes time to address the auto tranny (c-6) I'll know what the heck they are referring to. I've read that the stall is a rating that aplies to horse power, but it still doesn't help me with what the heck stall does!

Excellent article. I've actually used this site for rust removal techniques. And yes it was very helpfull. I get it now,I want a higher stall for more horses so my car stays stopped at the stop light, instead of wanting to creep foward. I also get some stuff I've read in the past here, like when Don's son had his car creeping foward at stop lights and he said they would have to get a higher stall to correct the problem. It's all coming together now. Thanks!

stall converter
the part I just really came to understand is true stall is affected by the torque of a specific engine. While some manufactures quote typical stall, its misleading when you put it behind a 400 torque engine vs a 600 torque engine. First time in my life to go with a stall converter behind my new BBC, researched the heck out of it, web and face to face with trans shops. Decided on an advertised 2800-3200 stall for my Elky, have been driving it now and find 3500 is what it really stalls to. Man does it feel awesome, gets the car into the power band and then goes like stink. Sitting still, with brakes held tight and then giving it gas slowly when 3500 comes in the car will move regardless of the brake pressure. Cant wait to get er broke in and really do a power pull.1970 El camino,454!!
