Torque Converter Removal

Hey all. Have another problem that you might have some sort of solution to. Here goes. Last night I removed to 302 from my Econoline pickup. Figured since I removed the C4 transmission a couple of weeks ago everything should be pretty straight forward and it was until I tried to get the torque converter off. Three of the nuts broke loose. Could not believe how tight they were. Let the kicking, screaming, cussing, throwing commence. The forth one is now really buggered up. A socket will not grip it any more. You guys on here always have ideas. Now what can I do besides shoot the dog gone thing.

Well, first, you should take the converter off first and leave it on the trans. Too late for that now, obviously.
Heat on the boss the bolt threads in to should do it, along with one of those "magic" sockets that have a bunch of steel rods in them, they'll grip anything! Or just cut the head off the bolt and worry about it later.

On a C4 converter this wont work as the studs mount directly to the body and the nut is between the block and flex plate - and with just enough clearance to get an open end wrench in there

A BIG Vise Grip, with good jaw teeth will probably work - cheap Chinese junkers wont.

You might just have to destroy the flex plate if that fails (but they are relatively cheap from Summit - but make sure you get the right balance version)

Every once in a while I have a problem with my Elements 5.0 software(me). I had been using 2.0 and this new one ain't the same. And I don't see any need for CS2 or 3 when Elements just keeps adding more and more (might add Nikon Capture NX though and start shooting NEF/RAW)

Sure - but does it fix my mistakes in composition and exposure:CRY: :LOL: ??

No Vista until MS gets it at least so it works at least at the same speed as my XP SP2 and they have fixed most of the bugs. My mistake on this was when I placed my original order and built my new computer, I clicked on Home Edition rather the Pro version and have been too cheap to upgrade (needed a new camera lens worse):D

Well, you could pry the converter out away from the engine and pull the ring gear/flex plate. Like 1C2 sez, it'll destroy the plate, but what else can you do?
