just noticed that one of my motor mounts is missing a significant chunk of rubber, probably the cause. somebody can delete this thread if you want
shouldn't be the cause, that would only make sense if motor torqued heavily from side to side. as you probably know the Ford 200 I6 has the starter ring gear on the torque converter. if that's what's grinding, prolly gonna need a new 1, which will be expensive.
it does torque quite a bit, and that is the only time i'm getting this grind. checked out the ring gear already, looks fine, only normal wear. i have a feeling that the structural instability of the mount without the rubber to buffer the torquing of the motor is throwing the entire drivetrain out of alignment, and the sound can be any number of things.
i'll do the mount first (it needs to be replaced anyway) and if that doesnt do the trick i guess its gonna be the converter next. i'd like a 3k stall anyway
If the mount is extremely loose, can end up with the fan blade making terrible noises when it contacts the fan shroud or whatever other obstruction it meets up with!!!!! Old 60's chebbies used to do it a lot, and also lock the carb to gas pedal linkage WFO!!!!!! Made for some exciting rides in traffic!~!!!!!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:
PS---Once I bought a Fairmont wagon from a dude (school teacher) that made terrible noises when it started, got it for $100 cuz he figured the starter ring gear and the starter where junk.... I replaced one of the starter bolts that had fell out, tightened the other one and drove the car for 3 years!!!!!
you'll have to have your stock converter modd'd for 3k stall, nobody makes them, only stock rebuilds. also, the input shaft is diffrent for the 6's anyway so a V8 converter wouldn't work even if you got a custom flexplate, cause your starter would be out of allignment. factory 200 makes most power at 4,600 RPM. a 3k stall would be useless on a factory motor, unless you had steep gears, but you probably have a 2.73-3.25 ratio 71/4" rear.Quote:

I'v thought about switching the Falcon's trans to a manual, getting the third pedal from a simmilar car, but I have yet to find the correct 3spd or 4spd to fit my car. If I had the money, the last show I went too, there was a nice restored driver 1968 Mustang, grabber green. 6cyl/ 3spd. evidently the 6 was not highly thought of, cause it was evidently removed for restoration, but never painted/ cleaned. the car was $5k, and I would have swaped the tired 6 for my Turbo 6cyl. just dont have $5k tho, and my mom didn't want a Mustang that bad, a poor but solid 289 V8 car sat next to it, $4k. You got a 3.03 3spd, or a Granada/ Monarch 4spd ( overdrive toploader )? if I can find 1 for the right price, I'd start sourcing a manual trans bellhousing. I love to row the gears.

I'v got mine heavily modded. block bored .030, decked to 0, Ford 2.3 HSC flat top pistions, D8 head, JP performance dual roller timing chain, Yella Terra Full roller rockers, Clay Smith 274/274 @ .50 110* LSA. .495 lift with 1.6 roller rockers.
