adjusting a 700r

haveing problems adjusting a 700r in my 33 forchevy truck.just had it rebuilt and now it still does not realy shift right.anybody know how to adjust one right.or do i need to take to trans shop?thanks:CRY:

There's a special adjust procedure for the cable.... If done wrong, your tranny won't last long!!! Somebody had a post on here awhile back with a link to a site that detailed the adjustment procedure...

PS--is this the same 33 forchevy you want to build the frame for?????

Try this, www.tvmadeez.com they have a whole article on the set up of the cable. It's critical that the cable is set right, when it's wrong, the oil pressure is reduced to the clutch pack, allowing it to slip and burn out.

basicly all you need to do is have no freeplay in the cable at full throtle If you are running a holley or edelbrock carb there are correction arms that bolt to the bell crank of the carb these allow more cable movement at lower throtle positions makes for nicer part throtle down shifts.

Would be helpful to know if you have OEM cable and bracket installed. If so, basic setup is to go under the hood,crank the throttle wide open, release the snap release for the cable. When it "pulls full relase"on the cable, re-snap the retention part of the adjuster into place. From this point, you can adjust 1 click at a time to get what you want for shifts and firmness. Anything more than 2 clicks either way, you have a different problem controlling your tranny shifts.

Actually, you need a little more than that. There also needs to be a slight preload on the TV cable. Put some preload on the cable. Then, back off the at-idle adjustment until the pressure stops dropping. Then adjust it to get a 3-4 psi rise. Finally, make sure that it is fully extended at WOT.
