    700 R 4

    I am running a 700 R 4 automatic and I built it to withstand 800 h.p. It is programed for stage two , meaning I still have automatic shift however I re-calibrated the governor to shift at 7000 r.p.m. I also installed W.O.T for O.D. Recently I installed an experimental converter with a 3500 stall which retains lock-up. I installed the old valve in the pump, a new solenoid, and a new o-ring on the input shaft. I have by-passed all the usual lock-up delays and have it wired directly to a rocker switch mounted on my shifter. When engaged, it does not lock-up in first but when I get to second gear, it locks up after about 2 seconds, longer when it is cold. If I am under a heavier load, it doesn’t seem to lock-up until I get off of the petal a bit.

    So, I am wondering if there is a sensor of sorts which interrupts engagement when the T.V. cable is extended to a certain degree or if it is activated off of line pressure. Also, is there a way of getting full lubrication to the rear of the tranny when not locked-up?

    #1 fluidpower, tranny fluid is not a lubricant.
    #2 what sensors, cable adjust, press button ,full throttle your accelerator,make sure button locks and tranny shift points are set.
    #3 you recently installed a 3500 stall torq converter which retains lock up, what computer is gonna run that?

    Hey Devine;

    The 700 tranny's T.V. cable does not set the shift points, it regulates the hardness of the shift via line pressure, but the governor dictates the shift points. I have no computer. I am not concerned with my shift points, I am happy with them, I want to have the converter lock up at the flick of the switch. These trannys have a temperature sensor in the pan which prevent the lock up from happening till it is warmed up. Well I removed it but I am still not getting instant lock-up at the flick of the switch, it varies.

    Hi Jeffrey;

    I find that in high performance there are no waranties. That is why I taught myself to build 800 h.p small blocks that last. Now I am trying to become an expert in the 700 R 4 trannys, for with them the same rule applies, no warranties.

    You see, I strongly believe in O/D trannies in Rods, for the beauty is excellent gearing for the track or off the light, and then when you get on the Interstate, you hit O/D and now, lock-up!

    Hey Jeff, I pull my front wheels off the line without slicks or nos. The main reason, 4.10 gears, but then add to that, a 3.06 first gear. If you do the math, it is like 4.56 gears with a 350 tranny. Now get a load of this, I hit highways speeds, and I am doing 2500 rpm.

    So thanks for the complement, but I am not genius, just a man who is fed up with failures.

    I wonder if I can load an image, for then I truly would be a genius.
