The TKO600 will bolt up to a stock bell from a muncie or T10, and they are very strong units. They also come with a variety of avaliable shifter locations. jimig@standardtransmission.com
You can go with a T5 setup from a second generation (mid eighties to nineties) camaro, Z28 or Iroc. It will bolt right on plus gives you the option of using it's hydraulic slave cylinder for the clutch if you wanted.
and their cheap and plentiful...
If your just looking for an overdrive check out a New Process a-833 MY6 code. Its a 4 speed OD unit.
Of course, these are low buck options. If money is not a problem, definitely go with a TKO
Another thing to consider is how much HP you are going to have, the T5 is a smooth shifting transmission with an excellent O.D. ratio, but it will only handle about 200ft lbs of torque. The A-833 will handle more power, but it and parts are getting scarse, just another thing to think about. jimig@standardtransmission.com
i got a tremec 3550 hooked to my 351W. i really like it, and i got it because it's a proven tranny. they generally come equipped with a ford belhousing, but i remeber seeing a chevy option. it also has 3 shifter positions. they may have changed the name on them recently, but i'm sure you can find it with an internet search.
i'd stay away from a stock t5. they just aren't strong enough.
most all of the tremecs have a good rep. you can pick one out based on your HP. i started with a 3-speed auto, but went with my original choice of a 5-speed manual. it sure helps with the gas mileage and noise. the tranny is a little noisey, but it just feel really solid.
Yes sir, the name has changed, they upgraded the old 3550 to handle 600ft lbs of torque and gave it a new name, TKO500 and TKO600. From the outside it is hard to tell the models apart, but the main chages were done internally to strengthen the 3550 design. jimig@standardtransmission.comQuote:
