ballooning a converter?

I just started racing my drag car. It has a 4000 stall converter with a trans brake, and I race at a track WITHOUT a pro tree. (each bulb blinks once untill the green does) I have been reving the motor to about 3,000RPM untill the first yellow light comes on and then going wide open on the transbrake. Somebody told me this will balloon the converter which I have heard of, but wasnt sure if what im doing will hurt anything?? Soo will it hurt anything if I go wide open on the converter for about .5 seconds each pass?

Depends on who built the converter.

A ballooned covertor (if you have one) will only create a bit more heat. Creates a lower stall and has an extremely hard time of "staying on" the lock up point. Like Richard said, who made it? If it was built right, no probs. If it's an el cheapo, Look out! I have always used personal favors from convertor techs to take stocker, rebuild it to my specs and really had good luck because of the extra fluid flowing through it for control, consistency, and not one episode of failure.
