ok so i got this tranny out of my 69 econoline van running a 351... its not the factory tranny or motor so its not gonna be as simple as that... i know so far that the tranny is very heavy and a 4 speed heres some pictures to give some further help http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...s/DSCF0009.jpg

yeah the shifter was made to fit thru the doghouse in the van.... its a pretty custom vehicle..... i need to get rid of the orange shag carpet in it and put something little less ugly.... maybe some black shag and a black leather couch... and a mini fridge to put my party beverages in
I was going to use a granny low tranny ,untill I found out it was not syncronized,sumthing about 5mph and 5000 rpm I thought would be cool for crusing the car shows and burger joints and making noise with.:LOL:

A good replacement tranny if you want to opt for one would be the 5 speed OD tranny out of a pickup, just mod the handle to work on the van.... Or take the chicken way out and stick an automatic in it!!!!!
I was just reading that the 435 has a PTO port on it....that could come in handy in a van :) I am thinking a HiPo margarita blender
yeah i was considering putting a t-5 in there.... the only thing that i'm worried about is the shifter position the t-5 is a good foot and a half further back since the shifter mounts on the tail housing.... i'd have to make one hell of a shifter to get it to work..... even though it'd be nice to get a shifter boot on it and have it come through the floor instead of a big gaping hole in the doghouse
I am shopping for a WC T5 as well. Funny, there everywhere when your not looking, but as soon as you need one they are scarce. I plan to match it up to a 454, so I want a decent torque rated world class one.
Look at a Tremec 3650 (from a newer mustang), they are pretty cheap and have more forward shifter. The tremec 3550 is even better but more pricey.
a brand new tranny is already spending too much.... i'm doing this van on a super cheap budget... and i already spent a lot of the budget on the motor to be rebuilt..... i'm probably gonna get a junkyard tranny if i get a 5speed.... probably just leave that old slug in there for the time being though .... the van is a nice toy and all.... but my mustang a starving for a new motor.....
I am with you, I am looking for a used $300 or so t5, they can be had. I saw a 3550 on ebya going for cheaper, the guy had no idea what it was...unfortunately it would have been costly to mate that to a chevy. My thinking is to get a junkyard tranny in there now, and later on when I have more $$ or it blows up, I can get a better T5 that has been "built"
