tranny rebuild - did i get a decent deal?

my baby (my truck) is at the tranny shop, since i don't have time to do the rebuild myself. even if i had the time, it's been a looooong time since i had my hands inside one. i think i got a decent deal. what do you guys think? $2100 gets me:

all the rebuild basics, like solenoids, seals, bands, etc.
new torque converter,
new valve body,
corvette servo,
3 year/50K mile warranty,
new vss,
new tranny mount,
new rear main engine seal,
tranny cooler,
and plenty of other stuff.
the tranny is a 4l60e

my friend used this shop, multistate transmission, for his grand prix gtp about 3 years ago, and 40K, including dozens of quarter mile runs, later, no trouble at all. my dad's taurus has had one of their rebuilds in it for about 2 years.

I was thinking about 1500 hundred.

What's there reputation like ? If they have a premier service with good products and warranty it will allways cost more.

.....my 400 turbo was $1100 but I took the trans in so they DIDN'T have to take it out/put it back in. Plus I DIDN'T get a new torque converter, trans cooler, trans mount, rear main seal, etc..... And now that I think about it, 12 years ago I had a 700 R4 rebuilt, with a new Tq conv., & they took it out & put it back in and it was like $2200.... hope this gives you an idea, I think you did fine...Bill

Sounds like top price to me. But, if you get top quality work: IE.. it was started on time promised, it was finished on time promised, and you didn't have to take it back, it survives the test of time.. and the biggest AND..

You are satisfied.

Then you got your $$ worth.

we spoke on the phone for quite a while. they offer a basic rebuild for $1850, but that's with basic parts, only 1 year warranty, and the only extra included is the rear main seal. with the slightly bigger price tag, it will basically be a corvette trans, with 36 month warranty, the new torque converter is included, and they're throwing in the really easy, like the vss and tranny mount for free (as if free, really exists :LOL: ).

the previous owner thought he was a garage guru, and put a bunch of mismatched "performance" parts in there. and the wiring is a hack job with rewiring. the old torque coverter hub is cracked and the converter is probably full of junk from the other parts wearing.

i don't feel like i'm getting a steal here, but i don't feel like i'm being robbed, either, so i guess it's cool. sometimes we spend time (like when i put my new engine in my other truck) and sometimes we spend money.

I agree with the above, Note you did not have to do a thing. Yes you could have saved between $600 and $800 if you pulled-it and hauld it to the shop, and guess what! chances of you getting a warranty if you pulled it and installed
yourself would be very slim, they would have said you did not installed correctly etc etc, So Pay-up and enjoy
