I have a 1965 Ford Galaxie with a Cruise-O-Matic transmission. It drives fine but to get it into third gear you have to drive in second at about 3500rpm for about 30-45seconds then it will finally shift. I was told that the tranny had been rebuilt and it had new seals in it so im guessing it was. Do you guys have any idea what this could be or if there is anything i could pour in to help it?

check the automatic trans kickdown, sounds like it's out of ajustment.
it doesnt have a problem downshifting when i hit the gas going up a hill. It just has problems shifting from 2nd to 3rd, and it takes forever to get in to third gear
that's why I say check the kickdown, it can cause this.
ill look at it hopefully that will help I never thought of that before. how can i tell wether or not it is out of adjustment? I had to buy a kickdown lever extension to reach my Holley carb could this be the problem?
yep, I'm not shure on what it needs to be ajusted to, but you could try taking up a little at a time and test.
Take the kick down off and see how it shifts,make sure its not pushed down as it will stay in low then. On the selector which dot are you putting it in,the big dot (second down from N) is the one you want and make sure you are getting vacumn to the modulator. The trans gets full not ported and if you have it hooked to the carb it could be ported and could make the trans shift late. Jeff
where is the vacumn modulator at? also when ever i start off in the big green dot it wont shift out of that gear also I'm not very sure i understand what you are saying about the trans not being ported. and one more question where would i hook a vacuum line up to the carb it is a holley 4160?

the vac. line going to the trans. should be hooked to a port on the intake, or any vac. port that has vac. at idle.Quote:
