I had a severe vibration comming from the driveline on my 65 custom 500 and the less the 3000 mile front U joint is bad and since the tailshaft seal in the trans is leaking now is the time to fix it. I went to autozone for a seal and U joint and three different type of trans came up,a tremac with a few model numbers and a T85 and T86. I have the normal toploader non o/d 3 speed trans so what do I have. Jeff:eek:

I think tremacs are late model 5 spds etc..
In late 50's and early 60's T85's were HD 3 spds.T86 I'm not sure about.Just measure seal with dial caliper and buy what fits. u joint should'nt be a problem. Good Luck:)

Your '65 Ford should have a T86 full-synchro 3 speed. The T85 is the older crash-o-matic gear grinder low tranny. The T86 is a good box.

I am glad to know what it is,the shop manual calls it a 3.03 and nothing else and I have the seal in and most of the vibration is gone. I put what was supposed to be new rear drums that came off a parts car a couple weeks ago and they are terribly out of round but I have some comming from advance auto parts I ordered on line,I would like to know how drums could get out of round just sitting on the garge floor as I drove the parts car a little and dont remember them ever being bad. Someone I work with that did suspension work years ago told me that out of round drums will cause a vibration going down the road due to them beingb out of balance and its getting hard to find anyone to turn them so I bought new ones.
