    Tranmission swap

I have a 1977 Chevy short wheel base half ton with a 350 tranmission
it has a 3:08 differential I would like to put a 700R-4 transmission in for the over drive .
What year tranmission is best for this swap ?
    Any suggestions .

the newer the better if you are puting in a used unit. I update any 700 I build but some things you need to know first you need to have the converter look up in 4th gear If you are good with eletrical and have a manual. You can do it without one of those expensive Kits use the a terminal to supply 12 volts and the 4th gear switch to ground the solanoid . You frame has been drilled for either a 350 or 400 trans the cross member will line up further back on the frame for a 400 If you can find a 700 tailshaft housing that has holes for the mount on it it will lineup where the 400 would no drilling or cutting also the shift linkage and cooling lines will line up go luck and you must wirew the converter of you will fail the trans.

if you are good with electrical you will know that 12 volt + is at the + terminal of the batt. and the One terminal 4th gear switch will ground it self. Good luck
