The rear seal isn't much of a problem. Pull the driveshaft, pry out the old seal, and tap a new one in. To put on a side cover gasket, you would have to remove the shifter linkage. That's easy, but I don't know if you have room in a Nova to get at all the bolts. If you can get a socket or a box end wrench on them, and there's room to pull the side cover, then it's not a big deal. When you put it back together, you have to make sure the shifter forks fit back in the sliders.

If you don't have enough room, you can put a jack under the tailshaft, remove the trans crossmember, and probably drop it low enough to work on without removing it.
