Both my '56 Dodge D500 and my '62 Dodge Dart (a "big" Dart) had factory push-button shifters on the dash just to the left of the wheel.

I don't know what years Chrysler products started, and quit, using them, but my experience with them was totally satisfactory, and I raced the D500.

If a "typewriter", as we called them, could be could be found today, I don't have any idea what would be involved to adapting one to a 727 that didn't come with one. I presume they were solenoid operated.
