I have a 2002 Impala that has 121,000 miles on it :HMMM: .It just started slipin yesterday.It happens while doing a hard turn ,like turning in a parking lot.I have changed the fluid and filter, it still does it.Is it time for a rebuild?Do these transmisions run off of vacum?
The quick answer is lack of fluid. Assuming you've got the right fluid level (quantity) could be your pump is failing either through wear or leakage (internal).
might want to get someone to scan the trans. for codes, the computer or one of the switches can make it slip also.
No vacuum modulators anymore, all electronic!
Have the computer scanned for stored codes, most likely you will have one or more "slip" codes. Depending on what you discover, a complete rebuild will probably be recommended.
A rebuild can get very pricey.. I would check out a GM SERTA trans before having one rebuilt. I believe they increased the warranty to 3 years/50,000 miles & CAN be bought for less than some shops will charge for their rebuild.
You might want to check your motor mounts. The engine could be shifting on a broken mount, changing gears without your realising it.
