how to make shift boot
I just got my seats done and I had the guy give me a scrap piece of the leather he used for the seats. My intent was so that I could make a shift boot with the same material as everything else. Does anyone have any experience making a boot?
I'm not really sure how to cut the leather so that it will wrap around nice and seat nicely on the trans cover.

get some fabric and practice your design. When you have what you want, template the fabric pieces on the leather and cut it out with scissors. Rivets would look nice against that steel plate.

Like Firebird said, get a pattern first then cut it out of the leather. Maybe punch some small holes in it and lace it with some leather lacing either the same or a contrasting color. Some of the old sports cars had a boot like that, looked kewl.

I'll get some scrap fabric and try it that way.

measure the thicknest of gear shift, then the the size of the inner circle of floor plate, divide by 4,make 1 pattern from a stif paper or cardbroad shaped like a triangle , depending on the look you want ,add 1/2''on both sides for seams(plains seam works or if you want make it to look real nice then french stitch the 4 seams) add 1'' to over all hight on top for fold over or draw string and about 1 1/2'' to 2''on bottom to go under plate, then trim it at the outter circle after installing it. WAAALLAA !!!
