I have always used a 350 trans ,but now want to build a serious racer that I can drive (cruise) to car shows.:D Main use of the 65 chevy truck would be drag racing (3.73 gearing). Is there a advantage if I go with the powerglide?

The break point for a PG is about 2,800 lbs. Any heavier than that and a 3-speed has the advantage.
Explain "break point",and it is a short bed with a fiberglass front end (hood, and fenders).
you need a little mor gear also. 3:73 in a 1/8 mile????Quote:

Under 2,800 lbs, the PG has the advantage. Over 2,800 lbs, the 3-speed has the advantage.Quote:

A 3.73 for the 1/8 mile?I would think a 4.88 would be a little closer. It is very difficult to a have a (serious racer) and take it to car shows.Quote:

I'll have to agree with erik, you need more gear.

I've seen glides in a lot of drag cars...even the ford guys use them (not gonna tell my opinion on why :) )
If you build the glide right it would be the best because it takes a lot of the human error factor out of the equation...
I'm also going to agree with the gear comment...for the 1/8th get as much mechanical advantage as you can.
