I don't think it's necessary to have it bolted to anything when it's welded. Although, the bolt hole may need to be drilled out afterwards. Went through the same thing on a C-6 in a Ford pick up.

You might want to check all the mounts for integrity, motor and tranny. They normally crack for a reason.
