Powerglide transmission

I have a 2 spd powerglide mated to my 230 inline 6 in my 66 Nova II. Prior to doing some engine work it seemed to shift okay. However after swapping engines, and camshafts it doesn't want to shift anymore. My dad told me that a guy at the transmission shop said that if we put a camshaft in the engine and ran it at high rpms even without the car moving would cause the clutch inside the transmission to burn out?? I've never heard of this before...is this true? We had orginally installed a clevite camshaft that required the engine to be set to a fast idle (high rpm) but we replaced the camshaft with a Competition Camshaft with a lower rpm range and now the transmission won't shift.

you need to check 2 things close, be sure you have vac. at the mod. on the trans. and make sure that the passing gear linkage going from the carb. to the trans is not binding. might help to clean the gov. will have to pull the tail housen off to do that.

I do have vacuum, and the passing gear linkage seems to be okay also. Will remove the tail housing next and check there. Also will check the valve body. If all looks good, I guess I'll have to look at getting a rebuilt tranny. I can get one for about $550.

Are you sure you got the torque converter inserted correctly? just a thought.
