Thread: How to control remote trans cooler fan

I have a transmission cooler mounted under the car between two frame rails. I am concerned that it does not get enough air flow over it during slow traffic situations and would like to had a small electric fan. I have found plenty of fans that will fit nicely, but not sure how to include a thermostat to turn them on when needed. I could tie it into my engine fan control, but not sure that is the best way. Looking for ideas or products.

Is too cool a trans temp a problem? If not run it when the engine is running. I'm not sure about the temp of the tranny myself, mine usually runs about 150 degrees.

Derale makes an inline thermostat that turns the fan on at 180 degrees and off at 170. Summit had it listed, but was out of stock, ended up ordering from Doug Herbert. I like ol' Dougzilla anyway, glad to give him the business. Ordered a 7" Derale fan too. Derale Part #s 13021 and 16507

Total cost was about a C-note

Go to your furnace supply store and get a thermostatic switch . They're a round module about 3/4" across. and a 2 bolt mount plate. They're a few bucks and are available in many temp ranges.
