NEED HELP WITH CLUTCH 4 MY 1948 F2 flathead

hello everyone i have a problem with my clutch it seems to be grinding everytime i shift gears from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th it has a grinding sound an feel like the flywheel is still spinning even if i push the clutch so that is why it makes tat grinding sound....my uncle was the owner for this 1948 f2 longbed w/ a straight 6 flathead 4 speed manual and was given to me and also told me that everything on this truck os rebuilt...

i have adjusted the pushrod on clutch lever and still the same problem

please help i need info, manuals, where to get a mechanic to do the problem, and where to find a mechanic that can do a automatic trans conversion

Could be the throwout bearing is dry or just worn out, might want to check and see if it is the noise culprit. What kind of motor do you have in the truck, still the flattie or ???

could be the old synchronizers might be shot. :CRY:

If memory serves correctly 51 was the first year for the syncronized tranny in Ford trucks ( an extra cost option).

If you have the original tranny looks like you will be learning to double clutch and match gear speeds when shifting.

That's the problem, the '48 four speed is non-synchro. She needs double-clutching every shift, or, when you learn your engine speeds in each gear, clutchless shifting. There aren't any automatics that'll fit without a lot of work, an engine/trans swap would be better. Or learn double clutching. Thats where you shift from low to neutral, let up the clutch and gas, press the clutch again when the engine has slowed everything down, and go for second. Repeat for third and fourth. Clutchless shifting accomplishes the same thing, but you don't declutch, just let off the gas enough to slip it into neutral, then when the engine hits the right RPM for the next gear, click 'er in. Very satisfying when mastered, and amazes your friends no end! Catch a ride with a trucker someday, and watch him close.
