Hi, I have a little problem. I have a big dual core aluminum rad for my car. Unfortunately the rad does not have transmission cooler fittings. I am running a high stall c-6. If I was to install a really large auxillary tranny cooler in front of the rad would it sufficiently cool the transmission.

I have no cooler for my tranny in my radiator and just run the cooler in front of the rad, it works fine. I have a 4500 stall and a temp indicator in the tranny, the tranny generally runs about 150 to 200 degrees, it actually usually runs cooler than the motor.
Might also want to consider the new inline filters that go under the car, if you have a place to mount it that will get good air flow and still keep the filter safe from road trash.
Thanks guys, what size of cooler would be appropriate for my tranny. It will be driven by a 540 hp 460.
Hey Powerluvr. I just picked up my rebuilt, beefed up C6 tranny from my rebuilder. I asked him the same question, and he told me to forget the cooler in the radiator and just use the biggest stand alone cooler I can find. So, that's what I will do. Summit racing and Jegs have a bunch of them. Also, he said just make sure that it gets adequate air flow. I've read other posts on this forum and others, and you always get the "never bypass the radiator", or "you don't need to bypass the radiator." Anyway, considering this guy has been in the tranny business for 42 years, needless to say, I will do what he told me to do. Hope this helps :)
