In my dealings with 350s, with an auto trans, there is a linkage that runs up from just behind the bell housing to the carb. I forget the exact name for it, but i do know there is one there. There is 2 different styles of cable for that, depending on the year of the tranny, so be sure to get the right one. The one I worked on had a much smaller end for the trans side than the one that they sell at Napa. (The only parts store on this island.) Hope that helps, I am sure there are some SBC guys out there with the correct name for that cable. If you have a chiltons manual for that engine, you should be able to find it in there.
If its' an automatic,,there will be some kind of kickdown linkage from the tranny to the carb,,,,as you step on the gas,,the linkage adjusts the governed speed of the shift, up or down
if its a POWERGLIDE trans. it will have a rod that runs from the left side of the trans. to the carb.
if its a th350 it will have a cable that runs from the right side of trans to the carb.
if its a th400 it has a elec. sw. at the carb, the wires goes to the left side of the trans.
what kinda tranny????????
powerglide uses a rod (I have one i believe)
350 turbos uses a cable
400 turbo uses an electric switch
and the are different from L6 to a V8
thanks guys. yeah you guys were right. i have a th350 and there is only a detent (kickdown) cable coming up from the passenger side of the tranny. now my prob is that my car wont shift out of first. i just installed a mr gasket shifter #7668 and i think the problem is that my shifter doesnt seem to be hitting all my gears. it only hits 2 out of 3 drive gears. could this be my problem? i already checked the fluid level and the detent cable adjustment. any body have any experience with this shifter it doesnt use a cable it uses rods and plates to hook the floor shifter to the selector arm.
hope u guys can help me again.
was it working ok before you put the new shifter in?Quote:
