I have A 49' ford with a 5.0 and a five spd. when i shift from 1st to 2nd at any RPM below 3700 it pops out of gear and grinds like no other. But above 3700 it runs fine.
Could some please help me with whats wrong.

It sound like one or more of the dog springs are broken in the synco hub. At higher RPM the dogs tend to be forced out to the hub, making them tighter and keeping the drum of the syncro engaged. It's probably aggrivated also by the age/milage of the trans.
Could it be a bent shift fork, that would cause it not to get all the way into gear?
Yes, the newer trannies have throwout bearings. And I think streets is right on this one. Either that, or you have mesh problems. Does the shifter physicly move, or does the tranny just slip?
it physicly jumps out, you can hold constant pressure on it and get it to stay in 2nd but it takes a lot of pressure on the shifter to do that.

Have fun getting the top cover and shift shaft+shift forks back together on that transmission. It is a pain to get everything lined up right. Other than that, the transmission is farily simple. Oh yeah, DO NOT take out the plug on the drivers side of the transmission until you remove the clip on the inside. You might break the clip. It also drops part of the reverse gear setup into the bottom of the case.
