Ok, the info. you guys sent was great. I've started researching putting the Mopar IFS system put in my 1938 Ford pickup. It sounds good but one guy said no, that I should only use the Mustang II system (sales pitch...?). I can get a very good Mopar IFS locally for $150.00. THAT is very tempting! Comments?? Has anyone out there put this Mopar IFS in a '38 - '40 or so Ford?? -Dave M.
I did one of these in a 51 Ford F1 several years ago and really enjoyed the truck after it was done.
Before you jump into it I would carefully measure several of the critical areas. First, is the tread width going to be compatable with the truck. Is the subframe compatable in width with the existing frame rails (these front ends are usually grafted to the existing frame). Another consideration is wether the steering box is going to interfer with the engine/exhaust your planning on running. These are not just a bolt in operation, and a little more difficult than the Must II setups, but the results can be very nice.
$150 for a good front end is very reasonable, but it's wasted money if you can't use it.:3dSMILE:
Front track on the Volare is 61".
Your truck original is near 57".
MII is 56".
Lots of people have put front clips on these older Fords that were too wide. They end up with wheels with lots of negative offset to still have the wheels look goofy in the wheel opening.
The Volare is cheaper, but it wouldn't be my choice. As Bob mentioned the wheel and track issues should be of concern. Cheaper is not always better. My choice would be the MII package made for the car.

I used a Volare subframe for a '48 F1 project and had to run 15 x 8's with +2 offset... only 1" of rim showing at the outboard edge. It looked like I had 3" drag skinnies up front... coincidentally, it looked good with the 15 x 12's in the rear and HUUUUUGE wheel tubs:D
