2003 T-Bird IRS Knuckle Question.....

I may use a 2003 T-bird IRS knuckle on my street rod's IRS. I need to know how many splines the hub has before special ordering the parts from the dealer. The dealer doesn't know. Anyone know???

i checked the ford tech web site and they didn't say how many splines are on the rear knuckle, if i have on come in soon i will be sure to count them and let you know

I guess you could just spin the knuckle nut off and count the splines.

ha karl, i haven't had a t-bird come in yet, but i talked to one of our part guys and they told my that there are two different rear hub with two different spline counts depending on the build date of the car, unfortunately we didn't have either part in stock:( i will
continue to keep my eye out for one unless you tell me you already found the info you needed

Thanks, keep me posted, I still need the info. I wonder if one is 28 spline and the other 31 spline, like they did with the cobra Mustang IRS between 1999 and 2000.

Also, according to the Ford diagram, the knuckle comes with the hub installed, implying that it may not be removable or serviceable. What's up with that? Normally, Ford sells the hub and bearing seperate to the knuckle. The diagram implies that if the bearing goes, a whole new knuckle needs to be purchased. :confused:

i don't know for sure about the t-bird but usually the hub can be pressed out, i wouldn't put it past them to make it only available as a whole assembly, it's just like the crown vic lower control arms. ford doesn't offer the bushing for these seperately so you have to buy a whole new arm although the aftermarket makes replacement bushings, as for the t-bird i really can't say. i dont have much experience with them
