I take it that no one here has done a dropped front axle? Where do you guys go to find out how to do this correctly?
A dropped axle is pretty much just like whats already there--however there are cast and forged axles out there---------- your probably looking at a 4 inch drop---------you'll need clearance for tie rod vs oil pan-------adjustable arm links for setting caster-----
Hey Scott, welcome to the forum! I missed your post and it dropped from the "What's New" list after a day or two - sorry you got ignored. My thought was to send you to Jason at Pete & Jake's Hot Rod Parts, but looking at their catalog they stop at '36 for their dropped axle. You might still call them and see where they point you - 800-334-7240. They're good folks.
I ran 5/50-15's on the Standard I had in the 60's and it was far enough in the weeds for me.
I think what Jason will say is to only consider a forged axle, and select based on the kingpin centers dimension and the spring perch dimension to match your needs. Your wheel offset can be adjusted to work on the kingpin center to center. Like this one from Speedway - your '40 spindles will fit, so if the spring perch & overall width fit it might be an option - https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speed...ain,59808.html
