dynamo hassles??
ok so hear me out here... i wanna explain the chain of events to see what y'all think....
ok so this wk i changed the RH exhaust manifold and fitted up a new battery(I change em every 2 yrs) on my 322.. fitted up sweet, car drove sweet as ever...yesterday i decide ima service her while i have the spare time...fit her up with new plugs etc check the rotor is ok..new coil...new leads blah blah...
Ok so i'm headin out today and she starts misfiring when ever you exceed 40mph...so i pull up to a junction and head up a hella steep hill in Low.. and she's poppin n a snortin n missing like crazy til i get into drive and then she's fine up to 40 again...tried to crank up my electric windows and the engine spluttered even worse til i let the switch alone..tried the heater and again it made her run like a dog.
so i abort the cruise and head home....
Anyhoo...bout 4 miles later she jus died...lost all power..came to a halt and i got no power at the electrics..well, jus barely enough to make the starter engage but not turn over.
I figure its the Dynamo is shot.. or mebbe needs new brushes..
and i was jus runnin offa the battery's charge til the battery was sooo weak that it was not operating the coil if i used any of the windows er blower er wipers etc...power was bein sucked to them not the coil...
Ok so heres where you kats come in..... i am NOT an electrical guy... i'm a wrench turner..
What d'you guys think??? any suggestions...and any advice on where to go get a rebuild or a recon unit??
Its an AC Delco unit..
I got a Rover V8 alternator..mebbe i'll look at fitting that up...any of you guys n gals done a dynamo--->alternator swap??? whats involved??
BAH!!! i hate days like today..first time she's let me down...or seen the back of a tow truck

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
