    NEED POWER DISC brake kit for a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL

     



    Hi! Just picked up a nice 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL, with POWER front Drum brakes behind 14" American Racing Rims. Would like to convert to POWER FRONT DISC brakes. ( Summit racing/ SSBC only manufactures a manual kit.)
    Looking for a complete kit from a reliable source. Any help would be appreciated. Please email me at bart_savino@me.com as I do not check this forum as often as I should. Thanks in advance!

    I doubt if those 14" Americans will fit over the calipers. The Fords of that era
    had large calipers. Might check before buying. Were the 66's disk?
    A 64 Bird was drum and a 65 was disk. Big calipers.

    Hey Bart,
    Here are some links you can check out. The last one if the the Ford Galaxie Club of America. I used to have a 64 Galaxie and they were a great source of help and information.

    77-9 thunderbirds and others built on that same chassis will bolt on and be inexpensive

    If you are looking to do an OE style swap I believe the LTD-II/Elite would be a good place to start looking for your rotors, calipers, and possibly even the spindles.

    Crites Restoration has a list of stock parts and instructions of how to install later Ford disc brake parts on a '57-'67 Full size/Galaxie. They still show it, but not the part number or price. I think it was about $25. Call them and inquire....

    That's the first time I have ever seen Elite mentioned. I had a '76 and remember it as the quietest and best ride I ever had in an automobile.

    Just wanted to follow up. Found an early Monte Carlo with discs, measured and duplicated the parts. (AutoZone, NAPA, etc.) fit just right inside the 14" AmRacing Wheels! If anyone wants a list of the parts used & part numbers, let me know & I'll post it. Fit great! Had to replace the master with one from a T-Bird (dual chambered) and add a proportioning valve (had one in the parts box) but worked great! thanks for all the suggestions!
