1973 to 1990 F100 or F150 Pickup is 58 3/4"
1970's Lincoln Town Car is 60"
I would go with the truck , it already has leaf springs .
And 5 1/2 bolt pattern, probly a ls and 31 spline axles with big bearings at axle ends
Dgas; Make sure you pull the axle's and check the spine I got a 28 out of a F150.
I don't know if someone switched it but I though I would have aleast a 31 or 33 spline.
I just went out and measured the rear end and it is right at 60 inches.
Also it you find a F150 with a 351 HO motor it should have a posi with the 31 spline.
I have found two of them this year that were old work trucks.

I believe the Lincoln Versilles has the 9" with disc brakes, around 58"
To identify the 31 spline axles from the 28 spline axles without taking them out, the centre of the axle flange markings are different.
I believe the 28 spline ones have 3 countersunk divots in line and the 31 spline ones have an elongated slot.
Or the other way around?:HMMM:
You can pretty much bet your pinion nut that whatever is still left out there in a 9" has been picked over until there are no good parts left. I would either bite the bullet and get all good stuff from Currie, Moser or Tom's or I might begin lookin' at the 8.8" Ford stuff.
In the end though, it would be real nice to just phone up one of the suppliers and get a housing that you know is square, proper length and has the proper spring perches in the proper place.
Thanks, Fortunately up here in the north country 9" RE's are common as nails, I still can find the mustang/falcon /comet 9"s occasionaly, Lincoln Versalles REs are pretty much gone + never were very common. Broncos are more common and everything else is everywhere at least that I know of, but then I'm a junk yard/back 40 crawler. I think I'll look under Ford PUs and order just the axles from Moser or somebody w my BC drilled already. Thanks again.
other way around and the versilles is to small for the chevy needs to be about i think 61 hub to hub older mustangs are just about a bolt in as well as the 70 s nova s and camaros as for what it should have for axles 28/31 there was a time i pick up 9s cut them down sold them .many are just 28 less it was a crew cab with a bbf or a bronco thats the only ones i every found 31s
Just out fo curiosity does anyone know what the big bearings mic out at?
Thanks Kurt
most of the sites/catuloques have listings of bolt pattern and diminsions of all the azle housing bearing ends---Strange, Moser, Mark Williams, etc
Thanks Jerry; Kurt
Here's a slew of info that's archived in the Crankshaft Coalition Wiki....

Went out to the farms Back 40 today. (A buddy and I have about 60 old cars and trucks there, mostly give aways and old project parts cars) No less than 18-20 9"s including several PUs from 64-75 and a number of galaxies from 65-70 that sealed the deal. I'll cut one of those out. I did find a 67 Cougar 8" RE (289/auto) as well but have no idea about parts/posi availability on those.
