Rear Springs '46 Ford
Hello all. I'm building a '46 Ford w.chev crate motor/700R4 and rear end from an '85 Camaro Iroc Z. I'm assuming the rear leaf springs are from the camaro also. My problem is that with the shocks that were on the car (9 3/4" compressed/14 3/4" extended) the car bottoms out at every bump. I purchased new gas shocks of the same length and it didn't help at all. The springs are 48" long 5 leaf and have a range of approx 3 1'2 ". Rear shackles are 2 1/2". Should i try longer shocks or go to the 5" free arch springs. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks.

3 1/2" isn't enough in the real world. Either lift it a few inches or "C" the frame for clearance.

How about relocating the shock mounts to get a bit more travel????

What is actually hitting?

Feels like the shocks are fully compressed

I used the rear springs & mounts from a `71 dodge dart. rotate the front mount, install a 1/4" thick plate in V of the frame, 2" behind the rivet. swing the spring up and locate the rear hanger.
