I have a 48 chev sedan with stock rear springs and after market shocks and a Mus II up front. When you are cruising at freeway speeds (65 -75) and hit any bump or say a bridge she rocks back and forth bad enough that I have to let off the gas. Is it just overdriving the set up? I know others that have the same and really cruise. Maybe she needs sway bars, what do you all think?
MII's really like sway bars!!! I also put KYB gas shocks on mine, Bilstein's when I wanna really get serious!!!!
How's the front end alignment?
When you say that it rock "back and forth" ...do you mean it rocks from the back to the front or do you mean side to side? Do you have PS? GM PS pump may need toning down in pressure to be compatible for the MII.
diff go with a sway bar. I am looking for a rear mounted one for the widened P/MII front end. I will also put one on my rear CE leafs.
I had a 41 ford coupe that was all over the road at hiwy spds and what a diff. with the sway, 'course that was eye beam. good luck
I've started using the torsion bar type kind of like the one ProZ has on the back of his Maro--though not near that fancy. I use sprint car torsion bars and arms modified for adjustable links, tons of them around used and cheap,easy to find one with the correct rate for the car....
The top rocks side to side like your in a boat on a lake and I found out today we were running 85 a couple times. At those speeds it was a little spooky with the wife in the car. Fortunately she was sleeping in the back seat and didn't notice.
I didn't consider the alignment, it may cause that huh? I'm having it checked friday.
I am looking at a sway bar in front for sure and maybe the rear too.
It has a stock mus II rack on it, no power steering.
Did the KYB shocks make it ride real bad Dave? I have access to a set.

Go with the sway bar. Your setup sounds similar to mine. I have sway bars on both ends. Almost no body roll at all. Drives like it's on rails!
By the way, I used the front bar off an 82 Monte Carlo(metric). I turned it upside down. Had to heat the ends and pull them in slightly. Keep the heat low, don't heat the torsion part of the bar, and let it cool on it's own. I ordered poly sway bar mounts and used the stock MII end links. Works like a charm and cost's WAY less than the aftermarket bars. Also, Monte's had several different sizes of front bars, so you could tune it if you need to. Should be cheap at a pick-a-part.
My rear bar is off a 70's Camaro, but that's another story.

Nope, the KYB shocks are firm, but not harsh I don't think. I like the way they ride...

I'll measure it tommorrow, but I think it was around 15/16". Been awhile since I put it on.
I've seen Monte Carlo's with bigger bars, but if you go really big it will affect the ride.
