Rear End ?'s
I am going to mini tub my 66 F100 with 16.5 M/T meats in the rear and Centerline Convo Pro wheels. I need to find out info on moving the leaf springs to the INSIDE of the frame rails for now (since I can't afford ladder bars and a coil over) and also how much I need to narrow the rear end so I can have deep wheels in the back. I don't know if I should cut the housing and buy new axles with a different bolt pattern (now they are 5X5.5 but finding wheels for this pattern is hard and Convo Pro's do not come in this bolt pattern), or if I should buy a housing and new center chunk, brakes, axles, etc. I don't really have the money to buy ALL of that stuff there. I am really on a budget of about 1000 bucks for this rear end.

There are several way to go but you should buy the wheels and tires first then build the rear end to fit inbetween do a search on rear ends and narrowed rear ends Mosser engineering cuts and resplines axles the cut and narrow housings also. Good luckCharlie

The only thing about having mine done is I hear it costs just as much almost as buying a new housing and all... I would cut the housing myself and weld it since I can weld well but I hear you have to have some kind of JIG, etc. I looked at a new center chunk and they are over a grand from currie!!!www.streamlineautocare.com

Go to Mosser engineering web site and get the prices I just paid $110.00 to have my axles cut I don't remember what the housings were.

The leaf spring suspension is a good choice also, stick with it. Less headaches, low maintenance and excellant traction if you put on a set of CalTracs. You could use the S10 springs also for a smaller, lighter package. Going this route will get you a ton of aftermarket support and an easily lowerable suspension package.

Thanks guys I will look into that then. Only thing is shipping... Won't it be heaps to ship it to them to have this cutting done? I plan to drag race the truck (pro streeting it) so I will need a beefy rear end. It's only a 28 spline rear but I think it will be fine.www.streamlineautocare.com

on the 28 spine will work ok but here is what i do and have done some 9 s look of one out of a van or truck less junk to clean off the housing and if you are lucky you may find a limited slip you can run alot lot of power thru the stock cases and the ford slip unit if its good.and run a shim pack no crush sleeve the newer ones from late 70 to the 80s the older stuff you want to keep a wayLast edited by pat mccarthy; 05-26-2006 at 08:14 PM.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
