Thread: Unisteer racks?

I've been running one for several years. I bought it at the Nationals and was so excited to get rid of the Vega "play", I was trying to figure out how I could install if before I left. I had bought a Mullins Vega several years before that and it quickly developed the play that Vegas were known for so I was happy to find the Unisteer product.
Once I got home and jacked the car in the air, I installed it with ease. And I must say...I wish I would have thought of it first. The play immediately dissapeared and the car drove more like a slot car.
After several years and 15,000+ miles, the only complaint I have is the driver's side dust boot slipped off when you turn the rack too hard. I called them about it and they said the early units had a shorter boot. They sent me a longer one (at no charge!) and it has worked as promised. I can say Unisteer has been one of the few companies in this sport who stood behind their product.
As for bumpsteer, I would say it is not a cure for bumpsteer. If you have bumpsteer with a Vega, you will still have it with the Unisteer. If your Vega and steering geometry is set up correctly, then you shouldn't have any problems with the bump steer.
The Unisteer fits fine as far as ground clearance too. Again if your geometry is correct, it will be higher than your dropped axle. And that should be good enough to pass your scrubline test.
I know I have recommended them several times and no one has any complaints about them so far. I really like dropped axle hot rods under the pre-35s due to the open view of the fenders. And with the viable options being between the Vega and the Unisteer...I will never buy another Vega. I finally gave away the Mullins Vega I took off to install the Unisteer and certainly have no regrets.
