Many years ago on a super-mod dirt tracker we tried a steering box with an extended shaft---Key word here being tried. It did not work very well. Went to a regular sprint car box and it worked great. They are expensive new, but cheap to pick up at the circle burner swap meets.

Matt, pitman arms are removable, might want to do a bit of research to see what a sprint car box looks like.
