It seems to me Streets mentioned just the other day that he ran an alternator off a drive shaft, maybe he can give details? Anyway, I am wondering about the necessary amps needed with a four-speed auto OD 700R4? It seems to me that in high gear the engine rpm will be low around 2000 rpm so on a long trip on an Interstate will an 85 amp alternator be enough to keep the battery charged? The expensive alternative is to go to a 140 amp alternator, but is that necessary, assuming one is driving at 65 mph at night with the lights and radio on for say 100 miles?
So far on this formum I have not seen any discussion of the rating of alternators, although maybe that is an old topic?
