Monte Carlo body question...

Just bought an '85 Monte Carlo with the 4.3 liter and auto tranny. Thing is I want to make it look more like the SS model as apposed to the ragged out Caprice look. I was told that I can simply unbolt the nose off of an SS model as well as the side skirts and whatever else is different and just bolt it up to mine and it would look exactly the same because they have the same body. Is this true? Right now this thing is a clunker but it runs good and it was only $750! Figured I'd make it atleast look nice and then start searching for a good chip to make her faster as well as some exhaust and intake.

But first and foremost does anyone know for sure whether or not I can "simply" make the SS conversion?

Yeah, everything should interchange, if you were really good, you could probably bolt the front section from a buick GN on and a few other parts to clone it as a GN.

the fenders are the same, how ever the ss has an air baffle that goes between the radiator support and the bumper cover. you will also need the front bumber impact bar and absorbers along with the fender ext. and the headlights and mounting panels. my advise is to buy an entire front cap used minus the hood will be cheaper and easier. (this may have been what you were talking about if so go for it) might want to check out montecarloss.com it you haven't already.

they will bolt on, but if money has anything to do with it you need check the price of that nose? just a suggestion :D

Well I certainly wouldn't buy them new unless I was rich and could afford to just up and buy crap like that. For that price I could find an SS for sell around here in "hick ville" Florida! Was thinking more along the lines of finding one sitting somewhere beyond repair or finding a recked one that isn't necessarily damaged in places that I need the parts.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to upping the power in this 4.3 liter? I think one of the more serious problems is the drivetrain. The auto tranny is sluggish with changing gears and the rear end is pretty crappy I'm sure. Want to upgrade to a V8 but I think before I do that I am gonna get my Charger running! :D
