Does a magnet stick to it? If so, it's plated steel, maybe nickel rather than chrome though.
I'm wanting to buff the scratches out of it but not sure what to use?? Any suggestions?
Try a simple chrome polish.
It it stainless steel I usually start out w/ 80 git if theres any deep scratches then move to a 320 to smooth it out then to a 400 to a 600 by this time I use ether a 800 or 1000 grit to polish this is done with a d/a sander then come the fun part and if your arms aren't hanging to the floor. Then i used a high speed buffer with a good metal( polish-cleaner ) then use some mother polish .it a lot of work but it is worth itthis also work for aluminum or any soft metal crome is plate and as drg84 has stated good crome polishQuote:

Austenitic stainless steel is non-magnetic.
Ferritic and Martensitic stainless steels ARE magnetic.
That said, most stainless you will see in automotive work will be austenitic.......
So deloreans arent magnetic? Hmm, interesting.....
