Can anyone tell me the width backing plate to backing plate of the 90 tbird? I am getting a different car as the tbird as turned to crap. So I want to use the rear end out of it for the 49 ply. I need 58-59" backing plate to backing plate or close to that. Is the tbird a close fit? I can't fiind any site that has the measurements and the tbird is at the shop right now.
Just measure it yourself, just jack the rear up and have a neighbor or sombody hold the other end of the tape measure up, backing plate to backing plate. I wish I knew but you may have to wait for the bird to get back.
Thanks Matt. thing is the shop that its at is closed for the next 2 weeks, owner is going on a cruise and he is letting me store it in his shop til he comes back.
Ok I was able to get into the shop today to measure, The Tbird measures 58" backing to backing, Thought I had it made, then I measured the plymouth, and its only 52", So all the sites with the measurements are WRONG!!!!!!!! Well I then measured the inside of the tires and rims that would have been used with the Tbird rear and guess what they are 52" apart.
So my question is would this still work? Even though the backing plate is 3" longer per side but the wheels set in farther. or will i need to get the axel shortened? or is it even possible to cut a IRS?
Plymouth is about 50-51, the backing plate of the hub is almost inline with the inside of the tire.
It sounds like the offset on the T-bird wheels will work as long as you use those wheels but isn't the 90 T-bird an independent rear suspension? I'm pretty sure my 89 T-bird is an IRS. It's a lot more work to install but if you're going to be driving that Plymouth hard you'll like the handling.
if the insides of the tires are right you dont have to do anything thats what you are doing when you cut the rear. you are fitting the tires and reams under the car. :DQuote:

Thanks Guys, and yes its IRS thats why I want to go with it. I love the handling the Tbird has and want the same safety with the plymouth. From the looks underneath the Tbird it doesn't look like too much more work, but then again the hardest things always seem to look easy for me until I start them.
I am also thinking of using the A arms for the front if they will bolt up to the mounts already on the plymouth. as the mounts look like they are built into the frame and I don't want to graft a front clip on at this point, Unless someone knows of a rotor that will bolt to the original A arm.
