I have to speak out on DDT's behalf. DDT is perhaps the safest and most effective pesticide ever used. It is so safe, that for many years, it was sprayed directly onto people to kill lice as well as over large residential areas to kill mosquitos. Nobody was ever harmed by it. Do you hear of malaria much anymore? DDT is still used in every other country but the US and is responsible for the reduced instances of malaria. Many jungle countries spray the jungle with DDT to kill mosquitos with little harm to other species. There are 2 reasons DDT was outlawed, it doesn't biodegrade rapidly, and it weakened the egg shells of birds. It was not outlawed because it was poisonous or harmful to humans.
