putting the rear on jackstands and revving it in gear really dosen't do anything cause there is no load on the tranny or engine but it sounds like the torque converter is shot maby causa low fluid or wear but I'd dout that the engine is shot unless it' a .high milage vehicle. Streets is probably right though, it wasn't running right so they sold it to you very cheap.
