Points closed would not cause a drain unless ignition was left on.
Thanks for all the input. Let me try to respond to all of them.
The car was last driven a week ago. As far as I can tell nothing was left on. No signs of any lights after recharging the battery. Radio was off. It has a Pertronix ignition so no points.
The battery is a Duracell that's about 18 months old. I'll get it tested.
I did follow the link Denny posted. I need to get a better meter to run the tests.
Firebird--Points closed draw would/could mean bad ignition switch and/or starter solenoid-------would cause a spark because of the condensor charge/coil secondary windings
For the price and what it will be used for this one is hard to beat.

i use a disconnect. helps quite a bit but a battery will go dead sitting on a bench. if not regularly charged it will sulfate and be junk. in winter storage take it out and trickle charge all winter .
