Been working on the ol 70 Ford Sport Custom Pick Up truck trying to get it ready for some new paint. I have to many projects though, don't think I'll be buying anything else in the future to work on. So busy going in 20 directions all the time. I want to put a Blue Metal Flake on it, but I have never Sprayed with metal flake before do I need a larger sprayer then I would use for primmer or regular Auto paint to keep the metal from clogging the sprayer??? Anyone know???? Thanks Kurt
Kurt, hopefully Shine or Robert (MP&C) will see this and they can get you going in the right direction.
Depending on what you have now, you may just need a different tip size.
Depending of coarse on how big a flake you want.

Thanks Ryan & guys. I actually have a old Professional gun that the Brother in law gave me 20 years ago.
He used it to spay fighter jets in the Air Force. It does great with primers and other paints.
Plus he gave me 2 touch up guns which are about half the size as the other gun
Then of course I have the cheapo's from Harbor Freight too.
The Flake size does not have to be big, I just want enough flakes so it's easy to see in the sun.

I was just thinking ( remembering ) that you were doing a Ranchero too right?? Did you keep it? I seem to remember you had quite a time getting it to the new house. Isn't that right??
How are you going to deal with all the surface rust?
Yep that's been 6 years ago now, The Ranchero is out there still on blocks waiting.
I was out of circulation for a while and might be again real soon. Trying to get something done before another new hip.

Very nice work on the ford. It looks a lot better with primer on it rather than the bare steel to rust. I have a truck that is getting that way too. It's no good. Haha
Well I got in 6 patch panels the other day as well as my new tail gate and some front hood hinges and springs.
I also got some other odd's and ends as well. Still waiting to hear if anyone know's what size tip I need to use for my spray gun to shoot metal flake paint.
I have shot paint before just not metal flake. Any way here is some more photo's of some of the progress on the old girl.

Kurt, if you're buying your product from a good paint shop ask the guy when you buy your paint about the tip size, and check the written instructions that they always offer, but very few ever read. There will be written instructions for the flake, too, assuming you're doing a custom mix and not a metallic. Just my $0.02, the guy at my paint shop has a wealth of knowledge, and he answers all questions but assumes that you know if you don't ask.
If you know the brand and paint you're going to buy you can probably get the data sheet online which tells you tip size and pressure etc.
2.5 tip at least . never get your advice from the paint store counter guy.
metallic will shoot through a 1.4 just fine. any metal flake needs a big gun .
I guess I've been spoiled. My "counter guy" owns the store, is the second generation owner with over 50 years experience and does high buck custom painting as his spare time job. He knows more about paint products and spray techniques than the reps that call on him.Quote:
