Today I had a 46 Lincoln on my lift. I was repairing the upper mount on passenger side rear. The whole undercarriage is custom. The welds looked like kaka but they've held for 25 years so I guess they're OK.

Anyway. It was a tough spot. I cut off part of the old bracket, welded it back together, and reinforced it with some 1/4" plate.

It's interesting to come behind someone's work. 25 years certainly reveals what was done right, and what wasn't..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

 *SIGH*

 Pics next time, I promise.

But I'll reiterate: the welds look BAD. There is not much about this build you want to see.

The fuel lines are all rubber tubing. Need to be redone with steel.

The wiring was patched, not completely replaced.

There is a BIG paint bubble on the rear trunk which is result of complete shoddy workmanship: there is a repair plate pop riveted behind it.

Good news on that is he is going to have me fix it right.

Bad news is the ankle bone.

It's connected to the shin bone.. Shin bone is connected to the knee bone...

I may require that he allow me to replace the entire lower trunk opening - the lower seal channel and rust areas to both sides. But I don't do finish work.

I like to work with steel. I'll let someone else do the plastic (body filler)..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
