Hey everyone, new to the boards here. I have a question that I cannot for the life of me find an answer for. I have a mark IV BBC and the timing chain cover has a hole at the bottom right below the crank shaft. My oil pan also has a hole that matches up to it. These holes are not threaded and they lead to nowhere. Anyone have any ideas on what the hole is for?
Oil pan gasket has rubber nibs to pull through to help hold end gaskets in place
Yeah there's three holes. The two on the sides are for that but the hole in the middle is bigger and I haven't found a gasket that has the pull through for that spot. Wish I could post pics but I don't have Photobucket. Is there any other way?

Five at a time, that's the reason it took so long for me to post pictures from the Street Rod Nationals.
And if you don't watch it, they will be in different order than what you want. You can move them easily before posting it though.
When you put a bead of right stuff silicon on it some will push up into the hole and help hold gasket. Hole doesn't do any thing else.
The only problem I have is this is the only forum I have to resize the pictures to post

Most of the pictures I posted from the street rod nationals were 2 MB or larger and the site resized them automatically.
The hole at bottom of timing cover is for a cam sensor. If it is not open, it is just a pre-cam sensor cover with the boss, but not drilled. Kind of like pre-roller 80's SBC blocks. They have the provisions for the lifter spider, dog bones (flat lifter tops), and drilled holes for the cam thrust plate, but still a flat tappet cam. If the holes are not open, then no need to worry.
