I bought a 409 with dual carbs and it's in a 34 ford coupe. The problem I'm having is the origional carbs that came with the engine(carter 500) were replaced with 650 Edelbrock. Punching the pedal, the engine hesitates for a few seconds and then runs great. I'm pretty sure this is from to much carb, but I could be wrong. Idels fine and after the hesitation, runs like hell.
No. Might hook up to progresive linkeage. Right now both open at same time. Denny good to hear from you again. What the hell happened to all your post?
is this an intake that will allow the engine to run off one carb at a time ?

work carbs , rear one first to about where seconaries start to open and the front so both reach wot at same time
next do it with front carb first then rear-----

set timing total with vacume disconnected
check dist for free movements of the weights and advance meckanism on dist upper shaft(most of the older Delco type dists that I have worked on had sticky, seized up advance mech)
Have about 15 carter 500 carbs and switched the 650's and it runs beautiful. Now if I can buy this from my friend, I'll be in heaven. Thanks for all advice.
I would guess that probably 3 of every 4 GM that I have worked on tune ups over span of 55-60 years have had sticky mech advance systems--timing wouldn't advance or maybe not retard-timing gets reset and then is maybe negative 30 degrees or advanced up to 60-------- causes lots of other symphonies as people mess with adjustments--------
But-----if anybody is working on any tune up---it is absolutely vital that you verify that the timing advances and retards correctly and is set properly!!!! And don't look down the carb while cranking the engine--------

Had to laugh Jery on your reply about not looking down the carb when tuning. How many times did it take with burned face to not do that.
