I'd like some jack stands to use in conjunction with my lift: tall strong and stable.
I took a quick gander at feebay and what I need starts at $100 ea.
I'd like some design and materials suggestions to make my own on the cheap. I have a good 220V MIG and I recently took a semester of welding.
Take a tape measure and a micrometer and toddle on down to Harbor Freight. Take measurements and then multiply what you find by some safety margin, like (times 1.1 or 1.2 or 1.3 or whatever you feel comfortable with). Whatever jackstands I would make for myself would include a vertical piece of tubing up through the middle of them, maybe 2" O.D. x 0.1875" wall for instance. I am not an engineer. I am a hot rodder, so don't bet your life on what i say here, although I have been able to keep myself alive around this hobby for 74 years.

I don't understand what you're looking for, or how they would be used safely in conjunction with a lift if the jack stand is on the floor with the vehicle on a lift? More info and maybe some ideas would flow?Quote:

I believe he is looking for some of these. Honestly, I think you'd spend more than $100 in time building one. We have the tripod adjustable style at work and they are really handy.

How I use stands with my four post lift is to raise the car, place the stands under the car, then lower the car onto the stands. It's easier and quicker than the floor jack.
The stands I have are too short.
I've got to say that in my mind that is an extremely dangerous practice. I'd rather see you make a slider that spans between the two tracks you drive on to, and use a bottle jack on that with regular jack stands on the ends, or from the slider. Or the type that 35Window and Ryan posted, with the threaded lift.Quote:
